FLT will be leaving our Education Improvement Plan on this website until the end of 2011.

This may be of interest, as a reference document for goals which were agreed in consultation with local schools and learners to raise aspirations and develop new opportunities for the town of Felixstowe.

Job done....

The Trustees of Felixstowe Learning Trust voted at a meeting in July that the Trust would be dissolved at the end of 2011, following the establishment of Felixstowe Academy.

Felixstowe Learning Trust was originally established in 2008-9, after a public consultation into Suffolk secondary education that resulted in the decision that a single secondary school should be provided for the town of Felixstowe.

In the competition that followed to choose a provider, Felixstowe Learning Trust set out a strong vision of high aspirations, community engagement and partnership working. In the end, Suffolk County Council awarded the contract for the new school to Academies Enterprise Trust, which became responsible for the new Felixstowe Academy from September 1st 2011.

As Trustees, we are all proud of what we achieved by unifying the town's learning community in a common purpose.

By seeking the best possible provision to secure higher achievement for all, we were part of a crucial debate as to how best we can help our children and young people meet the challenge of a changing world, now and in the years ahead.

By working together, we raised standards significantly and supported the discovery of a wide range of real talent and ability.

By showing real community leadership and principles, we provided stability during a difficult time of change for the town.

The 2011 examination results for Orwell High School and Deben High School were the best ever achieved in the town.

We would like to thank all the students, staff, families, elected representatives and other members of the local community for their support over the last three years.

We wish AET, the staff and students of Felixstowe Academy - and the community - every success in building on the legacy of Felixstowe Learning Trust.
